Learning Outcomes

 Explain "What is Dementia?"

 Describe the incidence and key presentations of dementia.

 Identify and explain factors that contribute to behaviours we may find difficult in caring for people with dementia.

 Explain the importance of effective communication in dementia care.

 Identify the principles of person centred dementia care.

 Understand the serious impact of delirium on the older adult

 Identify signs and symptoms of delirium

 Identify baseline risk factors or "predisposing factors" for delirium

 Recognise common precipitating causes of delirium

 Explain the impact of Mental Health problems on the person being cared for in the community
